Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in Iran and is associated with many social and psychological challenges. One of the biggest problems of these patients is facing social stigmas, which reduces self-confidence and increases the psychological and social burden of patients. Health-related stigma (HRS) is a social process that is formed by negative evaluations of the disease and has destructive effects on the health status of patients.
Methods: Digital storytelling is proposed as a new and effective tool to reduce social stigmas. This method involves the combination of photos, videos, music and voiceovers, which are shared in the form of 3-5 minute narratives. This technique enables reflection of the real experiences of breast cancer patients and helps to reduce social stigmas by creating empathy and deeper understanding.
Findings: The use of digital storytelling has been able to widely reduce the negative attitudes of society towards breast cancer patients. This method has not only increased social support, but also improved the quality of life of patients and reduced mental complications caused by social stigma. Through the widespread dissemination of these narratives on digital platforms, it is possible to help create positive changes in society.
Conclusion: Digital storytelling is known as an effective strategy in reducing the social stigma of breast cancer patients. This method, by creating a deeper connection between patients and society, can help change social attitudes and improve the quality of life of patients.
