Background: There is an urgent need to identify and apply a diagnostic tool that can assess children's and adolescents' eating behavior and attitudes. This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Persian version of the Children's Eating Attitudes Test (ChEAT) in 12-16-year-old female students in Ahvaz.
Methods: This was a descriptive psychometric study. The research population included 248 female students from Ahvaz, selected via cluster random sampling. Data were collected using the Persian version of the Children’s Eating Attitude Test (ChEAT) and the Children's Eating Behavior Questionnaire (CEBQ). Validity was examined using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient.
Findings: The Cronbach's alpha reliability of the ChEAT subscales ranged from 0.741 to 0.951. Exploratory factor analysis confirmed the existence of four factors in ChEAT. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the original four-factor model of the questionnaire, and fit indices indicated a good model fit. The questionnaire has acceptable convergent validity with CEBQ.
Conclusion: Due to the strength of the structure and appropriate psychometric specifications, the Persian Form of the Children’s Eating Attitude Test (ChEAT) had the capability to be used by researchers.
