Aloe vera has antidiabetic, antioxidant, and neuroprotective effects. This study was designed to evaluate the effects of Aloe vera gel on the morphometric changes in the brain of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats.Methods: 25 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 5 groups including: control (normal saline), diabetic (normal saline), Aloe vera gel (400 mg/kg/day; gavage), diabetic + Aloe vera gel (400 mg/kg/day; gavage) and diabetic + Neutral Protamine Hagedorn (NPH) insulin (10 IU/kg/day; subcutaneous). Experimental diabetes was induced by streptozotocin injection (60 mg/kg; intraperitoneal). All groups treated for 8 weeks. At the end of treatment course, the rats' brains were removed intact immediately after sacrifice for morphometric measuring by caliper. Histological brain sections were also prepared to assess morphometry of cerebral cortex and hippocampus via ammonium iron (III) sulfate staining.Findings: Diabetes induction reduced weight and dimensions of brain, and diameters of the hippocampus, and white and gray matter of cerebral cortex compared to the control group after 8 weeks (P < 0.05); while treatment of diabetic rats with Aloe vera gel or insulin significantly decreased the structural alterations of the brain and improved the blood glucose level of diabetic rats (P < 0.05).Conclusion: The results showed that oral administration of Aloe vera gel in diabetic rats improves structural disorders of brain and ameliorates diabetes-induced hyperglycemia.}, keywords = {Diabetes Mellitus,Aloe vera,Rats}, title_fa = {ژل آلوئه‌ورا موجب بهبود اختلالات ساختاری مغز موش‌های صحرایی نر دیابتی شده توسط استرپتوزوتوسین می‌شود.}, abstract_fa = {مقدمه: دیابت ملیتوس، می‌تواند منجر به اختلالات ساختاری در مغز شود. آلوئه‌ورا، دارای اثرات ضد دیابتی، آنتی‌اکسیدانی و محافظ عصبی می‌باشد. هدف از انجام این مطالعه، بررسی اثرات ژل آلوئه‌ورا بر تغییرات ریخت‌سنجی مغز موش‌های صحرایی دیابتی شده با استفاده از استرپتوزوتوسین بود.روش‌ها: 25 سر موش صحرایی ویستار به صورت تصادفی به 5 گروه شامل شاهد (سرم فیزیولوژی)، دیابتی (سرم فیزیولوژی)، ژل آلوئه‌ورا (400 میلی‌گرم/کیلوگرم/روز؛ گاواژ)، دیابتی + ژل آلوئه‌ورا (400 میلی‌گرم/کیلوگرم/روز؛ گاواژ) و دیابتی + انسولین NPH (10 واحد/کیلوگرم/روز؛ زیر جلدی) تقسیم شدند. دیابت تجربی با استفاده از تزریق استرپتوزوتوسین (60 میلی‌گرم/کیلوگرم؛ داخل صفاقی) القا شد. همه‌ی گروه‌ها به مدت 8 هفته مورد تیمار قرار گرفتند. در پایان دوره‌ی تیمار، مغز موش‌های صحرایی بلافاصله بعد از قربانی شدن برای اندازه‌گیری ریخت‌سنجی با استفاده از کولیس به صورت سالم خارج شد. همچنین، به ‌منظور بررسی ریخت‌سنجی قشر مخ و هیپوکامپ از طریق رنگ‌آمیزی سولفات آمونیوم آهن (III) مقاطع بافتی از مغز تهیه شد.یافته‌ها: القای دیابت پس از 8 هفته، موجب کاهش وزن مغز، ابعاد مغز، قطر هیپوکامپ، ماده‌ی سفید و خاکستری مخ در مقایسه با گروه شاهد شد (050/0 > P). در حالی که درمان با ژل آلوئه‌ورا و انسولین، موجب کاهش قابل توجه اختلالات ساختاری مغز و بهبود سطح گلوکز خون در موش‌های صحرایی دیابتی شد (050/0 > P).نتیجه‌گیری: تجویز خوراکی ژل آلوئه‌ورا در موش‌های صحرایی دیابتی، موجب بهبود اختلالات ساختاری در مغز و همچنین، موجب اصلاح هایپرگلیسمی ناشی از دیابت می‌شود.}, keywords_fa = {دیابت ملیتوس,آلوئه‌ورا,موش صحرایی}, url = {https://jims.mui.ac.ir/article_15194.html}, eprint = {https://jims.mui.ac.ir/article_15194_68a51059fe36a5e173eaabed0cea6256.pdf} }
