Background: Many guidelines, such as the European Society of Urology, recommend preventing thromboembolic events in urological surgery patients. However, many healthcare providers are not fully following these guidelines. For this purpose, the present study investigated the adherence to the approaches of the European Urological Association, the latest edition of 2022, in patients undergoing urological procedures.
Methods: To conduct this descriptive cross-sectional study, we used data from patients who had urological surgery at Al-Zahra Teaching Hospital in Isfahan during the first three months of 2022. We used a checklist to gather information on patients' demographic details, risk factors associated with thromboembolism, and data on prophylaxis management.
Findings: During the specified time, 334 patients were identified (69.5% male; mean age 54.28 ± 16.93). The results indicated an 89.2% compliance with the guideline among patients with a strong recommendation for prophylaxis. For patients with a weak recommendation, the adherence rate was calculated at 85.2%. The compliance rate with the duration of prophylaxis was 60.6%. The most prescribed procedures were partial open nephrectomy and open radical nephrectomy, both below the limit (33%), while laparoscopic radical nephrectomy (53.8%) and sling surgery (37.5%) had higher than expected prescription rates.
Conclusion: In general, the study's results indicated proper adherence to the mentioned guidelines. However, more research is needed in this field to outline the conditions for prescribing thromboembolism prophylaxis.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive disease and one of the most common neurodegenerative disorders. AD causes impairment in memory, learning and other important mental functions. The aim of this study is the effect of ovariectomy on cognitive memory and learning in AD mouse model induced with scopolamine.
Methods: In the present study, 32 female Wistar rats (weight 180 to 200 grams) were divided into four groups: control, ovariectomy (OVX), Alzheimer's disease (AD), and ovariectomy + Alzheimer's disease (AD+OVX). Alzheimer's model was induced by intraperitoneal injection of scopolamine, 1 mg/kg for 14 days. Short-term memory and non-avoidance learning were evaluated by Y-shaped maze and shuttle box behavioral tests, respectively. Nissel's staining method was used to evaluate the degree of neuronal destruction in the CA1 area of hippocampal tissue samples. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey's approximate test at a significance level of 0.05.
Findings: According to the Maze test, a significant decrease in frequency index was observed in the OVX, AD and AD+OVX groups compared to the control group. According to the shuttle box test, the average duration of entering the dark area in the OVX, AD and AD+OVX groups was significantly reduced compared to the control group. The Nissl staining results showed that the average number of live cells in the OVX, AD and AD+OVX groups was significantly reduced compared to the control group.
Conclusion: Deprivation of estrogen caused by OVX can have aggravating effects on Alzheimer's symptoms on cognitive memory, learning and also neuronal damage.

Background: Marine organisms are an important source of bioactive metabolites. These organisms produce unique compounds with specific biological activities. Research has shown that corals can play a potential role in drug development, especially anti-cancer drugs. The Persian Gulf is one of the largest shelters for marine organisms such as corals, sea sponges, all kinds of edible fish, non-edible fish, and many other aquatic creatures.
Methods: Marine coral Sarcophyton pisnilata was collected and extracted using methanol: ethyl acetate solvent (1:1). Separation and isolation of different coral compounds was done by various chromatographic methods, such as normal-phase silica gel column and high-performance chromatography (HPLC). Silica gel column chromatography was performed using hexane: ethyl acetate solvent as the mobile phase and washed in a gradient manner. Then, isolated compounds were identified using different NMR identification methods, as well as mass spectrometry (MS) methods. Next, the cytotoxicity of these compounds was studied against HeLa cancer cells using the MTT assay method.
Findings: Three sulfoquinosyl diacylglyceride (SQDG) compounds were identified. Also, compounds 1 to 3 showed cytotoxic results on cancer cells, IC50 of them was 12.2 ± (2.3), 25.8 ± (3.7), 14.9 ± (2.6), 9.8 ± (1.2), and 5.6 ± (1.2) μM, respectively.
Conclusion: Isolated compounds from Sarcophyton pisnilata showed vigorous cytotoxic activity against Hela cells in vitro.
