Investigating the process of understanding and experience of parents of people with sexual dissatisfaction about their child: A qualitative study with a grounded theory approach

Abstract

background:People with gender dissatisfaction have a marked discrepancy between the gender assigned to them  and their experienced / expressed gender. The aim of this study was to investigate the process of perception and experience of parents of people with sexual dissatisfaction about their child.Methods:Strauss and Corbin version 98 was used to analyze the data. In an accessible and purposeful sampling method, 15 unstructured in-depth interviews were conducted with 15 parents of individuals with sexual identity disorders referred to Ibn Sina Hospital in Mashhad in 1399. MAXQDA software was used to organize and encode qualitative data.findings: A total of 15interviews and 121 concept codes were extracted. 58% of the children with sexual identity disorder who participated in the study were girls. The mean age of these individuals at the time of participation in the study was 24 years, the mean age of decision to perform surgery was 21 years, and the mean age of onset of symptoms in childhood was 9 years. Findings obtained in this study, in six main categories with the titles of parents 'experience of childhood of a child with sexual identity disorder, abnormal behaviors observed in adolescence and youth of a person with sexual disorders from the parents' point of view, parents 'feelings, parents' misbehavior, causes This problem was posed by parents, the individual's own experience of sexual identity disorder.Conclusion:the role of specialized education for parents, for example in the field of education, is necessary for proper diagnosis and proper prevention.
