Abstract
Background: Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignancies in Iran and worldwide and one of the deadliest diseases in the world. Therefore, identifying the epidemiological aspects of this disease is one of the main tools to deal with it. In this study, we examined the epidemiological and histopathological features of gastric cancer in Isfahan province from 2015 to 2019.
Methods: This study is a cross-sectional descriptive research and the data were collected from the database of the Non-Communicable Diseases Prevention group of the university health department and analyzed using qualitative and quantitative statistical methods.
Findings: According to the findings obtained in 5 years of data analysis, the number of new cases of stomach cancer in Isfahan province was 2438 and the average incidence rate over these 5 years was 10.24; Of these, 67.8% were men and 32.2% were women. The mean age at diagnosis was 65.85 years. The most common type of tumor was adenocarcinoma. Also, Khwansar city had the highest and Borkhar city had the lowest incidence of stomach cancer.
Conclusion: The incidence rate of gastric cancer in Isfahan province varied during the 2015-2019 period; However, it seems that the incidence of this disease has increased in younger ages, especially in women. Therefore, preventive measures and early detection through screenings are suggested.
