Abstract

Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer worldwide and is also recognized as the most prevalent cancer in Iran. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play a significant role in regulating gene expression. These RNAs are involved in biological processes such as cell proliferation, metastasis, and tumorigenesis. The circular RNA hsa_circ_0065972 has been identified as a circRNA associated with the RPL29 gene in breast cancer. Recent studies have shown that circular RNAs can serve as potential biomarkers for the prognosis and treatment of breast cancer.
Methods: In this study, 35 pairs of cancerous and healthy tissue samples were collected from patients referred to Kashani Hospital in Shahrekord, Anahid Clinic, and Poursina Hakim Laboratory in Isfahan. After RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis and Real-Time PCR reactions were performed. The results were analyzed using Prism software.
Findings: The expression change of hsa_circ_0065972 showed a 1.4 fold increase in tumor tissue compared to healthy tissue. This change in circular RNA hsa_circ_0065972 was statistically significant (P = 0.0009).
Conclusion: The results indicate that the expression level of the circular RNA hsa_circ_0065972 is upregulated in breast cancer tissue. Therefore, this circular RNA holds significant potential to be studied as a biomarker, highlighting the need for further research.
