Abstract
Background: Stroke is a leading cause of mortality and disability worldwide, and the quality of nursing care plays a pivotal role in patient outcomes. Given the lack of a localized tool for assessing the quality of care for stroke patients in Iran, this study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Jiyad Quality of Care Assessment tool for stroke patients.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2024 on 205 nurses working in the intensive care and neurology units of teaching hospitals in Khorramabad. A census sampling method was employed. The translation and psychometric evaluation processes were carried out based on the model proposed by Wild et al. (2005). Face validity, content validity (Content Validity Index and Content Validity Ratio), construct validity (exploratory factor analysis), and reliability (internal consistency via Cronbach’s alpha and stability via test-retest) were assessed.
Findings: The mean age of the participants was 32.72 years (SD = 7.42). The majority of the nurses were female (67.8%) and held a bachelor's degree (86.3%). The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the entire questionnaire was 0.157, which increased to 0.652 after the removal of the second item. The overall Scale-Content Validity Index (S-CVI) was 0.92, and the mean Content Validity Ratio (CVR) was 0.88. Exploratory factor analysis yielded four factors that collectively explained 61.2% of the total variance.
Conclusion: The Persian version of the Jeiad Nursing Care Quality Scale demonstrates favorable face and content validity, acceptable construct validity, and relatively acceptable reliability. This tool can be used to assess the quality of nursing care for stroke patients in clinical and research settings in Iran.
