Abstract

Background: Depression is a predictor of cognitive impairment in eldery people. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of Vitamin D, CRT, tACS ,and CRT+tACS in reducing depression in the elderly with MCI.
Methods: In this randomized Quasi-experimental clinical trial study, 32 elderly people with MCI after completing Beck depression inverter and MoCA in several stages and random allocation were divided into four groups of intervention. CRT, tACS and a CRT+tACS were conducted in 12 sessions and twice a week. Each session of CRT, tACS was performed for 20 minutes and each session of CRT+tACS was performed for 40 minutes, and in the group receiving vitamin D, they received 20 micrograms equivalent to 800 IU of vitamin D daily for 6 weeks. Before conducting the research, the Beck depression test (BDI) and MoCA test were taken for four groups, and at the end of the research, BDI was taken to check the effectiveness of the treatments on reducing depression. The data were analyzed with repeated measurement statistical test with significance level of less than 0.05.
Finding: The results showed that the depression scores decreased significantly in the cognitive rehabilitation intervention group from 11 to 9, but no significant difference was observed in the transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) and combination of CRT and tACS and vitamin D groups (p>0.05).
Conclusion: According to the present study, CRT decreased depression scores in MCI, and It is more effective in reducing depression compare to tACS, CRT+tACS and vitamin D.
