Abstract
Background and Aim:Type 2 diabetes is one of the most prevalent metabolic disorders. Regular exercise is a highly effective and practical approach for managing and treating diabetes. This study aimed to investigate the effects of eight weeks of endurance training on the content of certain proteins associated with diabetic cardiomyopathy pathways. Research Methods: In this experimental study, 32 eight-week-old adult male Wistar rats were divided into four groups: diabetic control, diabetic exercise, healthy control, and healthy exercise. After two months of a high-fat diet, followed by a 35 mg/kg streptozotocin injection in the diabetic groups, the animals exercised on a treadmill at 65% Vmax for eight weeks. Forty-eight hours after the final training session, heart tissue was extracted, and protein analysis was performed using the Western blot method. Findings: The results showed a significant decrease in the protein content of AMPK and LKB1 in both the diabetic control and diabetic exercise groups compared to the healthy groups (p<0.05). However, the protein content of mTORC1 and MuRF1 significantly increased in the diabetic control group compared to the healthy control group (p=0.001). Notably, the content of these proteins significantly decreased in the diabetic exercise group compared to the diabetic control group (p=0.001). Conclusion: The findings indicate that eight weeks of moderate-intensity endurance training improved the changes in proteins related to diabetic cardiomyopathy. This suggests that moderate-intensity exercise can be a promising non-pharmacological strategy for patients with diabetes.
