Abstract
Background: The aim of this research was to examine the professional ethics characteristics of faculty members in the health education system in published articles.
Methods: The research utilized a scoping review method and the five-step strategy of the University of York to investigate studies related to the components of professional ethics that faculty members of medical universities must adhere to. Keywords used for the search included: Codes of ethics, faculty members, Conduct of ethics, medical professional ethics. The electronic databases searched were: PubMed, Scopus, SID, Magiran, Iranmedex, Civilica.
Findings: The search was conducted for the period from 2014 to 2024 by reviewing titles. Out of 1,414 initial titles, 1,304 unrelated ones were removed, leaving 110 remaining. In the next stage, the abstracts of the articles were studied, and related articles were selected for full-text review, which included 46 articles. Then, the Glenn critical appraisal tool was used, and finally, 12 articles that scored above 30 out of 50 in content quality were selected, from which 137 ethical themes were extracted, although they lacked sufficient comprehensiveness.
Conclusion: The number of articles specifically addressing the ethical responsibilities of faculty members in medical universities is very limited. The ethical themes obtained do not cover all the areas in which faculty members are active. Given the need for universities to have an ethical framework for faculty members to reduce the gap between the current and desired states, a comprehensive study should present all relevant ethical themes in an academic, transparent, logically categorized, and universally acceptable manner, thereby contributing to the elevation of such standards.
