Background: The premature rupture of amniotic membrane (PROM) is considered as cause of 1/3 premature deliveries and have a reasonable effect on mortality and morbidity of newborns. So, on time and accurate diagnosis of PROM is necessary for keeping safety of mothers and their fetuses. In this work sensitivity and specificity of Padtan-Pasargad kit in diagnosis of PROM were investigated.
Methods: This diagnostic study was conducted on 30 pregnant women with premature amniotic sac rupture (case group) and 30 pregnant women without amniotic sac rupture (control group), who were been referred to Isfahan Clinic Hospital. The case and control groups were selected randomly. Physical examination of vagina, Nitrazin test and Padtan-Pasargad test were performed for all cases.
Findings: Considering physical examination as gold standard, the sensitivity, specificity of Nitrazin test was 76.6 and 83.3% respectively. Sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of Padtan Pasargad test were 83.3, 93.3 and 88.3% respectively.
Conclusion: The results of this work showed that Padtan Pasargad vaginal pH &PROM kit has a suitable sensitivity and specificity for diagnosis of PROM and can be used as a rapid test in women suspected to premature rupture of amniotic membrane.
