Background: Ovarian drilling is an effective treatment method for clomiphene-resistant polycystic ovary (PCO) patients. Here we aimed to determine the predictive effects of antimullerian hormone (AMH) and number of antral follicles (AFC) in treatment response.
Methods: This is a clinical trial that was performed in 2021-2022 on 70 patients with PCOS. Eligible patients included based on the mentioned criteria. Demographic data of patients were collected at the beginning of the study. Serum levels of testosterone, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), prolactin, AMH and AFC in these patients were then measured. Patients then underwent ovarian catheterization via laparoscopic technique. The success of ovarian catheterization (the occurrence of ovulation) was defined as the return of regular menstrual cycles over the next year.
Results: patients with response to treatments had significantly higher AMH (P= 0.001) levels. AMH had significant direct relationship with treatment response (r= 1.226, P= 0.004). Patients with AMH higher than 8 had 8.32 times higher chance for response to treatments (P< 0.001).
Conclusion: AMH had significant predictive values in treatment responses. Patients with AMH higher than 8 had 8.32 times higher chance for response to treatments
