English

Background: Oral pigmentations are common lesions of the oral mucosa, and various factors such as tobacco use, medications, and systemic diseases play a role in their development. This study aimed to investigate the types of oral pigmentations and their association with age, gender, smoking, systemic diseases, and medication use among patients attending the Dental School of Tabriz.
Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, 412 patients referred to the Dental School of Tabriz were examined for the presence or absence of pigmented lesions. Data collection tools included a clinical information form and an intraoral examination. The collected data consisted of demographic information, type, color, location of the lesions, and the patients’ medical and medication histories. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 17, and a significance level of less than 0.05 was considered for all tests.
Results: The results showed that 20.4% of patients had some form of oral pigmentation. The most common type of lesion was melanotic macule (34.52%), and the most prevalent color was light to dark brown (61.9%). A statistically significant relationship was observed between the presence of pigmentation and factors such as age and smoking....
