Background:The aim of the present study was to investigate the mediating role of mentalization of affective in the relationship of childhood traumas and suicidal ideations in individuals with borderline personality symptoms.
Methods: The research method was descriptive-correlational using structural equation modeling (SEM).The statistical population of this research included people with a score equal to or higher than the cut-off point (score 10 in the Borderline Personality Inventory (BPI)) in Mobarakeh city from the general population of those who visited the health centers of Majlesi, Talekhunche and Karkevand regions in 2025.at first, the Borderline Personality Inventory (BPI) was given to the people and after the initial screening,250 people were selected using the accessible method without clinical diagnosis.Then other questionnaires were presented.The research tools included:Mentalized Affectivity Scale (MAS) by Greenberg et al. (2017),Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) by Bernstein et al. (2003),Borderline Personality Inventory (BPI) by Leichsenring et al.(1999) ,and Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation (BSSI) by Aaron T.Beck et al.(1979).Structural equation analysis was used to analyze the data. The results obtained indicated a favorable fit of the research model.
Findings:It showed that childhood traumas with a standardized effect size of 0.31 and (P=0.05) have a significant direct effect on suicidal ideations,Mentalization of Affective with a standardized effect size of -0.39 and (P<0.05) does not have a significant direct effect on suicidal ideation.Also,Childhood traumas have a significant indirect effect on suicidal ideations with the mediation roll of mentalization of affective with a standardized effect size of 0.29 and (P=0.05)
