Abstract
Background: Idiopathic scrotal calcinosis is a rare, benign dermatological condition characterized by calcium deposition within the dermis in the absence of systemic or metabolic disorders. Recognition of this entity is important for inclusion in the differential diagnosis of scrotal masses.
Methods: A 51 year old man with no significant medical history presented with a solitary, asymptomatic scrotal nodule that enlarged gradually over 10 years. Physical examination revealed a firm, mobile, non tender lesion confined to the skin. Routine laboratory tests, including serum calcium, phosphorus, complete blood count, and renal function, were within normal limits. The lesion was completely excised.
Findings: Histopathology demonstrated amorphous calcium deposits in the dermis without epithelial lining or active inflammation, consistent with idiopathic scrotal calcinosis. The postoperative course was uneventful, and no recurrence was observed during follow up.
Conclusion: Idiopathic scrotal calcinosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of chronic, asymptomatic scrotal nodules in patients with normal laboratory findings. Complete surgical excision is both diagnostic and therapeutic, with a low recurrence rate.
