Abstract
Introduction: The aim of this study was to identify the characteristics of professional ethics among faculty members working in the health education system.
Methods: This research was conducted as a scoping review. Using the York University five-stage strategy, published studies on the components of professional ethics among faculty members in medical universities between 2014 and 2024 were reviewed. Keywords used for the search included:, Codes of ethics, faculty members, Conduct of ethics, medical professional ethics, Medical university professors, ethics in higher education, ethical responsibility. The electronic databases searched were:PubMed, Scopus, SID, Magiran, Iranmedex, Civilica.
Findings:
Out of an initial pool of 1,414 titles, 1,304 were excluded due to irrelevance. From the remaining 110 articles, 46 were selected for full-text review. Using the Glinn Critical Appraisal Tool, 12 articles were ultimately chosen, including 7 in medical sciences and 5 in higher education, none of which shared a common framework for categorizing or presenting ethical codes.
Conclusion:
Very few studies have explicitly outlined ethical codes for faculty members in medical universities. There is a pressing need for comprehensive 360-degree research in this field to systematically extract, categorize, and present all ethical codes in an academically rigorous, transparent, logically structured, and universally accepted manner.
