Background: A cerebral aneurysm is a localized dilation or protrusion of the arterial wall in the brain caused by weakening of vascular structures. Its rupture can lead to subarachnoid hemorrhage and severe neurological complications. Structured and systematic documentation of patient information is essential for monitoring disease patterns, improving treatment management, and supporting health policy planning. This study aimed to identify and compare the main characteristics of cerebral aneurysm registries in selected countries.
Methods: This qualitative comparative study was conducted in 2025 using a descriptive approach. Key features of cerebral aneurysm registries in Greece, China, Switzerland, Germany, and the United States were examined through scientific literature, official documents, and credible online sources. Data analysis was performed using comparative tables, enabling the identification of shared characteristics and differences across registry components.
Findings: The features of the cerebral aneurysm registry were identified across nine key dimensions—introduction, objectives, patient eligibility criteria, structural design, evaluation and quality control methods, reporting procedures, presentation and dissemination strategies, data analysis capabilities, and data security measures—comprising a total of 48 distinct components.
Conclusion: Significant differences were identified among the selected countries with respect to registry design, technological infrastructure, data collection processes, and analytical capacity. Multicenter and prospective registry models showed better performance in analyzing treatment trends and predicting clinical outcomes. Developing a national cerebral aneurysm registry in Iran requires a precise understanding of successful global registry models and a thorough examination of other countries’ experiences regarding system features.
